The mosaicist

When he started his own business as a mosaicist, the first orders were for church mosaics: the name of the church or a coloured compass rose integrated into the façade. Later on, he proposed ways of the cross.

In the case of residences, the name of the house was executed in mosaic and placed on the façade. Charles Carrère also produced numerous secular works of decoration.

The Charles Carrère’s mosaicist profane work reveals an artist. His works adorn the facades of houses, schools and buildings.

Inside houses, mosaics sometimes decorate the fireplace. Others are intended to brighten and colour the interior of the house.

The religious work of the mosaicist concerns for example the inscription of the name of the church on the façade.

Charles Carrère also made ways of the Cross inside churches, perfectly integrated into the wall.

The Focus page regularly offers articles with an analysis of a work. Stained glass, mosaics but also works by the artist.
