When he talks about his job he talks about light, transparency and colour. The sun as well as the clouds now eternally illuminate the interiors of chapels, churches and any building where he has exercised his talents as a passer of light. During his sixty-two year career, Charles Carr\u00e8re has used techniques and styles as a vehicle to cross and defy time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His works are in France, in the north of the Basque Country and in the Landes, as well as in the tropics, in Reunion Island and in Mali. The largest site of his religious work as a stained glass master is on the island of Reunion. There he created 70 m2 of stained glass windows for the church of Saint-Andr\u00e9<\/a><\/strong> <\/a>in the commune of the same name. His secular work as a stained-glass artist takes us into very different worlds, from private homes to public places.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

As for the mosaicist Charles Carr\u00e8re, his secular works adorn the facades of houses and public places to designate their names or to colour them with symbols. His religious mosaic works can be found both on the facades of churches and in some cases inside them, such as the chapel of Saint-Michel Garico\u00efts in Olhette<\/strong><\/a>, where you can admire a Way of the Cross made by Charles Carr\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

It is only after his day’s work that he goes upstairs to his artist’s studio. He draws and paints until very late at night. His works are challenging, revealing in particular a surrealist anchorage. Charles Carr\u00e8re has always jealously guarded his paintings and watercolours, which he did not like to be separated from. He has made a few exceptions for his home town of Anglet and even again in December 2020 for the exhibition “Vaste Monde #2” at the Villa Beatrix Enea<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
